Let’s not do the whole kitchen. Today’s just about the fridge—and maybe the freezer, if you’re up for it. One focused refresh. No pressure, no perfection needed.

Step 1: Take stock & declutter

Your fridge should reflect how you actually eat—not the version of you who soaks chickpeas and bakes sourdough before sunrise.

Ask yourself:

  • What do I really eat during the week?

  • Are there ingredients I keep “just in case” but never use?

Sort it all into three piles on the counter or table:

  • Keep – Fresh, useful, and something you’ll genuinely eat.

  • Maybe – You’re unsure. We’ll come back to these.

  • Toss – Expired, questionable, or just not going to happen.

🌀 Fridge space is finite. Let it serve your real life—not your culinary Pinterest board.

Step 2: Empty & clean deep

Yes, everything comes out—even that soy sauce bottle in the door from 2021.

  • Clear out all shelves and bins.

  • Wash with warm, soapy water (skip the harsh stuff).

  • Wipe spills and dry everything before restocking.

Take a breath. You’re not starting over—you’re making room.

Step 3: Make food easy to see (and eat)

If you can’t see it, you won’t eat it. (And it’ll probably haunt you later.)

  • Use clear bins or trays for snacks, produce, and leftovers.

  • Keep anything leaky (like raw meat) in its own container.

  • Seal strong-smelling foods tightly.

  • Label zones: snacks, dairy, meal prep, leftovers.

🔄 Revisit your “maybe” pile. A better spot or container might help. If not, it’s okay to let it go.

Step 4: Organize by zone

Make it easy to find what you need—and even easier to put things back where they belong.

  • Group like with like: dairy, drinks, sauces, leftovers.

  • Use bins or shelf labels.

  • Follow the “first in, first out” rule—new items go behind older ones.

🎯 Small tweaks = less waste and fewer fridge scavenger hunts.

Step 5: Make it work for you

This isn’t about a Pinterest-perfect fridge. It’s about making daily life smoother.

  • Adjust shelves to fit your usual groceries.

  • Keep snacks and staples at eye level.

  • Create a “quick grab” zone for lunchboxes or mid-meeting bites.

Show the freezer some love

Same idea, frostier setting.

  • Sort by category: veggies, meat, bread, meals, treats.

  • Label everything with what it is and when you froze it.

  • Stack flat when you can.

  • Rotate older items to the front.

🧊 Pro tip: Colour-coded bins or bags make it easier to spot what you’ve got.

Keep it fresh: a tiny weekly habit

  • Do a quick 5-minute check: toss expired items, wipe spills, restack bins.

  • Before shopping, scan what’s already there—can you build meals from it?

Let your fridge evolve as your habits do.

✨ Clear fridge, clear mind. You’re doing great.
